Days of Mekong and Roses

You can't go home.  The days of elephants on the lane are no doubt gone forever.  The watching children are grown with children and/or grandchildren of their own.  The city and country have changed.   Only memories remain; the sounds of exotic birds, the cry of gibbons in the trees, gun-shots in the night, a pet bear eating leftovers in the driveway.  In North Alabama,  through my yard might pass deer, possums, raccoons, fox, coyotes and maybe a wildcat from time to time.  No elephants.  Sigh.
